Who This Service Is For

Galaxy Plumbing's seasonal plumbing service is built for:

  • Mississauga and GTA homeowners: in properties built between the 1960s and 1990s, where aging systems benefit most from structured seasonal attention
  • Homeowners with sump pumps and basement flood risk: who need spring inspections before the heaviest rain events and fall confirmation before the freeze season
  • Property managers and landlords: across the GTA who need consistent, documented seasonal service across single or multiple residential properties - our property management explains how we structure these plans
  • Any homeowner: who has received an unexpected emergency plumbing bill and wants a proactive approach going forward

Most emergency calls we receive could have been prevented with an inspection two to four weeks earlier. A seasonal maintenance plan is consistently the most affordable plumbing strategy a GTA homeowner can follow.

What This Service Includes

Galaxy Plumbing's seasonal plumbing service covers a different priority checklist each season, matched to the actual risk profile of GTA homes:

Spring (March–April)

  • Sump pump float switch test, discharge line confirmation, and battery backup check
  • Outdoor tap and frost-free hose bib inspection for freeze damage after winter
  • Backwater valve condition check and flood prevention system review
  • Eligibility assessment for the City of Toronto Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy Program

Summer (June–August)

  • Water filtration system performance check during peak demand months
  • Outdoor water lines and irrigation connection inspection
  • BBQ gas line inspection and installation by TSSA-certified technicians - see our HVAC services for the full scope of gas appliance work we handle

Fall (September–November)

  • Outdoor tap interior shut-off and drain-down before the first frost
  • Water heater pre-winter inspection - anode rod, pressure relief valve, sediment level, and burner or element performance
  • Sump pump battery backup confirmation before winter thaw events
  • Backwater valve check and flood prevention equipment review

Winter (November–March)

  • Full freeze-protection review - pipe insulation, exposed lines in garages and crawlspaces, outdoor shut-offs
  • Water heater performance under increased winter demand
  • Emergency repairs available 24/7 for burst pipes, frozen lines, and sump pump failures throughout the season

How It Works

Step 1: Schedule at the Start of Each Season

Contact Galaxy Plumbing to book your seasonal inspection. The ideal windows are late March for spring, late May for summer prep, and September for fall. For homeowners on an annual plan, we confirm scheduling automatically each season.

Step 2: Seasonal Inspection and Assessment

Your technician works through the season-specific checklist, photographs every finding, and explains what was found before recommending any work. Where water leak detection or drain camera inspection is warranted to investigate a finding further, we present the option and cost before proceeding.

Step 3: Remediation, Reporting, and Next-Season Planning

Any issues found are addressed on the same visit where possible. You receive documented findings after every visit - useful for insurance records, building boards, and capital planning.

Seasonal Plumbing Risks in the GTA: Season by Season

Spring: Highest Flood Risk of the Year

Spring is the highest-risk season for basement flooding in Mississauga and the GTA. Snowmelt combined with spring rain creates high soil saturation and elevated municipal drain loads - exactly the conditions that expose an underperforming sump pump or a partially blocked backwater valve.

The priority is confirming your sump pump is functional before the heaviest rain events. Test the float switch, confirm the discharge line is clear of winter debris, and check the battery backup. Our blog post on sump pump issues and repairs covers the warning signs our technicians look for before a pump fails during a critical storm.

After a GTA winter, frost-free hose bibs should also be inspected before hoses or irrigation systems are reconnected. A bib that froze and cracked internally shows no visible sign of damage until water pressure is applied. Our blog post on shutting off your home's outdoor water valve covers outdoor tap management across all seasons.

Summer: Peak Demand and Outdoor Systems

Summer increases water demand significantly across GTA households. Outdoor watering, increased shower frequency, and appliance use combine to stress systems that may have existing minor issues not yet visible. It's also the best window for outdoor gas line work and water quality improvements before the fall rush.

If your water filtration system hasn't been assessed recently, summer's higher consumption makes performance gaps more apparent. Our TSSA-certified technicians also inspect and install BBQ gas lines to code - see our HVAC services for the full scope of gas appliance work available.

Fall: The Preparation Window

Fall is the most important planning season. Work done between September and November determines your plumbing's resilience through January and February. Two systems deserve priority attention every fall: outdoor water connections and your water heater.

Close the interior shut-off valve for each exterior hose bib, disconnect all garden hoses, and open the exterior tap to drain any residual water. This takes ten minutes per tap and prevents one of the most common freeze-related damage calls we receive each winter.

A water heater working at reduced efficiency in October will struggle under the higher demand of a GTA winter. Our fall inspection checks the anode rod, pressure relief valve, sediment level, and burner or element performance. Addressing a marginal water heater in the fall is significantly less disruptive than an emergency replacement in January.

Benefits

A structured seasonal plumbing plan with Galaxy Plumbing means:

  • Season-matched inspections: the right checklist for each point in the GTA year, not a generic one-size template
  • Documented findings after every visit: suitable for insurance records and property management reporting
  • Upfront pricing: on any remediation, no surprise invoices after the inspection
  • 24/7 emergency coverage: throughout the winter season for burst pipes and pump failures
  • Single contractor relationship: for plumbing and HVAC - one team, one invoice, no accountability gaps
  • Proactive cost control: the majority of emergency calls we receive were preventable with an earlier inspection

According to the Insurance Bureau of Canada, water damage is the leading cause of property insurance claims in Canada and the majority of these events are preventable with proper seasonal maintenance.

Fantastic job by Galaxy Plumbing!  Appreciated the professionalism and informative service from this team.  I had a toilet and sink back up issue which the technician was able to come and resolve the same day I called.  At the same time, recommendations were shared to prevent similar issues in the future.  Great attitude and top notch workmanship!
Jason Lobo ★★★★★
Rob's service from start to finish was exceptional. Spoke with him about getting a dripping bathtub faucet fixed. Walked me through how to remove the valve cover. Also correctly guesses that it was a water cartridge issue.  Booked a plumber the next day and sent me a text with the ETA. The communication through out was fantastic. For some one who has never booked a plumber for a smaller job, understand that it's not cheap. And you have to consider the cost of parts if not covered under warranty. Would definitely recommend Rob and use his company again if needed.
